“The Garden” and “Crips and Bloods: Made in America” will screen as part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 28th annual “Contemporary Documentaries” series on Wednesday, October 7, at 7 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. Admission is free.

The debate over Darwin rages on in America’s heartland as intelligent design
comes to the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History September 29th with the Southwestern debut of Darwin’s Dilemma, a new film on the challenges to evolution in the fossil record. To view a trailer and clips from the film please visit www.darwinsdilemma.org.
Darwin’s Dilemma will be screened at Kerr Auditorium in the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, with a post-film discussion featuring two leading intelligent design scientists, Dr. Stephen C. Meyer, author of Signature in the Cell, and Dr. Jonathan Wells, biologist and author of Icons of Evolution.

The Marcus Theatres in Orland Park will present their first all day Independent Film Festival on Sunday, September 20th featuring all four of local filmmaker Robert Alaniz’s films produced by Sole Productions located in Frankfort, Illinois. Alaniz has been making films in the south suburbs of Chicago over the past five years, utilizing over 500 actors and film enthusiasts from the south side’s local talent bank. This will be the first time all of his films will be available on the same day for the public to see on the big screen. The movies are as follows:

In 2009, Rooftop showed 22 feature-length films and 150 short films, coming from 25 different countries. The movies in tonight’s show, like all of our programming, represent some of the most daring cinema in the world—films that are startlingly funny, surprisingly poignant, and wholly original. For our Closing Weekend, we have a program which references cinema itself, which celebrates the joys of the outdoors, and which mourns the passing of time. Comedy, animation, drama and experimental films that will linger in your mind so long we couldn’t call them “shorts.” Onward to 2010, we leave you with these final Rooftop Shots.

Manhattan College will host the premiere of the film The Chicano Wave/La Onda Chicana, a documentary which explores the evolution of Mexican-American music. The event, presented by the history department, modern foreign languages and the provost’s office in celebration of Latino Heritage Month, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10 in the Rodriguez Room of Miguel Hall.
