Stony Brook Film Festival Presents: ‘God Knows Where I Am’

God Knows Where I Am by Jedd and Todd Wider

The Stony Brook Film Festival, presented by Island Federal, is proud to present the Emmy-Award Winning Film God Knows Where I Am, on July 25th at 8 pm. The screening will be free and will feature a live Q&A with actress Lori Singer, and director Jedd and Todd Wider.

God Knows Where I Am documents the story of Linda Bishop, a well-educated New Hampshire mother who suffered from severe bipolar disorder with psychosis. Linda Bishop was intermittently incarcerated and homeless and was committed to a state psychiatric facility for three years. In tackling the subject matter, the filmmakers began from a social justice perspective, but their focus quickly shifted to a more intimate and artistic exploration. The story is told from a variety of perspectives, including her own, through recollection and first-person narrative.

Directors of the film Jedd Wider and Todd Wider has worked together for over eighteen years and have directed and produced numerous critically and commercially successful feature documentary films including Taxi to the Dark Side (directed by Alex Gibney), and other films such as King’s PointTo The Edge of the Sky, and The Winds of Downhill. In 2011, Todd Wider and Jedd Wider were nominated by the Producers Guild of America for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures.

Lori Singer is the executive producer for God Knows Where I Am, and is also the voice of Linda Bishop, who the film is focused around. Singer is a Golden Globe-winning actress and has starred in films such as Footloose, The Falcon and the Snowman, and most recently, Experimenter.

God Knows Where I Am has been widely distributed theatrically and nationally by PBS and Netflix, and has already won numerous awards. The Los Angeles Times said the film is “remarkably moving,” the film is also a New York Times Critic’s Pick. You can register for the free virtual screening here.
