Speer Goes to Hollywood, a documentary film directed by Vanessa Lapa on the self-proclaimed “good Nazi” Albert Speer will open at the Film Forum in New York on October 29, and at Laemmle Royal and Laemmle Town Center in Los Angeles on November 5th. Other cities will follow.
Speer Goes to Hollywood had its World Premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, its North American premiere at the Telluride Film Festival and also screened at the Jerusalem Film Festival, where it won the award for Best Director.
How did a man in charge of 12 million slave laborers become “the good Nazi”?
Speer Goes to Hollywood offers an intriguing look at the inner workings of a man responsible for the deaths of millions, yet whom many people still consider a decent man in indecent circumstances. This new film by director Vanessa Lapa, award-winning director of The Decent One (2014), is a cautionary tale about Albert Speer’s 1971 attempt to whitewash his past with a Hollywood adaptation of his bestselling wartime memoir, “Inside the Third Reich”.
