Quo Vadis, Aida? by Jasmila Žbanić has been voted the winner of the second LUX Audience Award.

In a ceremony during a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg (France), Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, presented the award in front of the MEPs, invited partners and, representing the nominated films, the directors Sebastian Meise (Great Freedom), Jonas Poher Rasmussen (Flee) and Jasmila Žbanić (Quo Vadis, Aida?).

The film is set in Bosnia, July 1995. Aida is a translator for the UN in the small town of Srebrenica. When the Serbian army takes over the town, her family is among the thousands of citizens looking for shelter in the UN camp. As an insider to the negotiations, Aida has access to crucial information that she needs to interpret. What is on the horizon for her family and people – rescue or death? Which move should she take?

Accepting the award, the director Jasmila Žbanić stated “I was so shocked that we Europeans allow a war in Ukraine. Please stop the war and take care of countries not in the EU!”

The LUX Audience Award uniquely unites the votes of the European public and those of the Members of the European Parliament. It is presented by the European Film Academy and the European Parliament, and in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas.
