Giant Pictures will release A House Made of Splinters, the 2023 Academy Award®-nominated feature documentary directed by Simon Lereng Wilmont (The Distant Barking of Dogs).

A House Made of Splinters premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2022, where Lereng Wilmont received the Directing prize for World Documentary, the film was also nominated for three IDA Documentary Awards, two Cinema Eye Awards, a European Film Award, and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary.

A House Made of Splinters will be available on VOD on Tuesday February 21, 2023, as well as in select Alamo Drafthouse theaters from March 2023.

Filmed prior to Russia’s full scale invasion in February 2022, A House Made of Splinters follows four children in a temporary orphanage in Eastern Ukraine as a group of dedicated social-workers create small moments of joy and respite from childhoods all but lost.

Filmmaker Simon Lereng Wilmont returns with a follow-up to his acclaimed first feature, The Distant Barking of Dogs (shortlisted for an Academy Award in 2019), with a unique look into how the long-term consequences of war on a society already under strain impacts the most vulnerable. His is a poignant and deeply intimate portrait of a remarkable way station filled with care, support, and trust for a group of kids who are in desperate need of more.

The documentary will make its national broadcast premiere on PBS as part of POV’s upcoming 36th season launching summer 2023.
