when minds hurt, love heals

MSNBC anchor Richard Lui confronts the issue of mental health in his new documentary Unconditional, following three families as they turn the corner.

The documentary is executive produced by Maria Shriver, Montel Williams, Lauren Rogen, and Laurie Hernandez.

Unconditional is being released in May timed to Mental Health Awareness Month and Military Caregivers Month, opening in theaters May 3-9, on PBS on May 1, and on VOD on June 5.

Seven years in the making, Unconditional follows three families setting off on journeys of self-discovery, taking on the most emotional topics of our day – physical and mental health – surprised by how they emerge stronger in the end. When minds hurt, love heals.

Directed by MSNBC Anchor Richard Lui (and featuring his own personal caregiving journey with his father), Unconditional is a revealing film about the arc of mental health that 50+ million families live with each year, showing how it is not what we think it is. Not only polar extremes, mental health comes in shades and places we don’t notice. Journalist Richard Lui explores this common experience, shifting from his private life off-air, as well as reaching out to other families exploring similar hidden wounds, and the ways to talk about it in unconditional ways.
