Here is a first look at Toll, the new drama film from Award-winning Brazilian filmmaker Carolina Markowicz that world premiered to a packed house on Saturday night at Toronto International Film Festival.
Starring in the film are Maeve Jinkings (Charcoal, Aquarius, Neon Bull), Kauan Alvarenga, Thomás Aquino (Bacurau), Aline Marta Maia (Charcoal), and Isac Graça.
In the film, Maeve Jinkings stars as Suellen, a Brazilian toll booth attendant and mother, who falls in with a gang of thieves in an attempt to keep her family afloat. In doing so, she realizes she can use her job to raise some extra money illegally for a so-called noble cause: to send her son (Kauan Alvarenga) to an expensive gay conversion workshop led by a renowned foreign priest.
At the festival, Carolina Markowicz will also be honored with the TIFF Emerging Talent Award presented by MGM Studios at TIFF 2023.
Following the film’s World Premiere at TIFF 2023, the film will also be shown as a part of the Official Selection of San Sebastián International Film Festival (Horizontes Latinos) as its European Premiere.
