The 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) will close with Fingernails, Christos Nikou’s English-language debut starring Jessie Buckley, Riz Ahmed, and Jeremy Allen White.

The tender and idiosyncratic romance co-produced by Cate Blanchett is Christos Nikou’s sophomore outing, following his debut Apples which was selected as the Greek entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards.

Nikou presents a world in which couples can take a definitive test to find out if they are compatible in love, involving the removal of a fingernail from each party.

Are you looking for reassurance that your beloved is The One, that your partner is truly for life? Then visit the Love Institute, a scientific organization that will test the mutual compatibility of people who have decided to embark on life’s journey together.

Anna (Jessie Buckley) and Ryan (Jeremy Allen White) have found true love. It’s been proven by a controversial new technology. There’s just one problem: Anna still isn’t sure. Then she takes a position at a love testing institute, and meets Amir (Riz Ahmed).

“After being in the jury of Karlovy Vary Film Festival in 2021 and having the chance to present my first feature Apples to the Czech audience, I am so excited and grateful to return to a festival and a city that feel like home. I would like to thank Karel Och and Krystof Mucha for honoring us as the closing film of the festival and giving me the opportunity to share with the audience my English debut Fingernails.”
