Twenty years after the film was completed, Judy Irving’s The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill is now flying back to theaters across the country in its new 4K UHD restored, remastered plumage. The restoration of the film was a five-and-a-half-year process, a labor of love by the filmmaker that now includes a new 5.1 surround mix. In the original theatrical release, the film opened to rave reviews and screened at 500 theaters in the US, grossing over three million dollars.
Release Date
The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill will open at the New Plaza Cinema in NYC on November 17th and will screen at Laemmle NoHo in LA on November 29 and at Laemmle Royal on November 30th prior to the film’s Los Angeles release on December 1st at the Laemmle Glendale. Select screenings will be followed by Q&As with filmmaker Judy Irving. Many other cities will follow including San Francisco release at the Roxie in January 2024.
Synopsis
The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill is the true story of a Bohemian St. Francis and his remarkable relationship with a flock of wild green-and-red parrots. Mark Bittner, a dharma bum, a homeless street musician in San Francisco, falls in with the flock as he searches for meaning in his life, unaware that the wild parrots will bring him everything he needs.
