St. Louis Superman is a new documentary short chronicling Bruce Franks Jr., a Ferguson activist and battle rapper who was elected to the overwhelmingly white and Republican Missouri House of Representatives, and must overcome both personal trauma and political obstacles to pass a bill critical for his community.

The Academy Award(R) nominated documentary St. Louis Superman, directed by Smriti Mundhra and Sami Khan will premiere Monday, May 18 at 9PM ET/PT on MTV, VH1 and MTV2 via simulcast.

The nominations were announced for the 92nd Oscars® with indie films American Factory, For Sama, and the short film St. Louis Superman, among the films receiving nominations.

After screening screened over 300 films from 63 countries, the 28th Annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival (SLIFF), concluded with the closing-night awards presentation. “We Believe in Dinosaurs” directed by Clayton Brown & Monica Long Ross won the award for Best Documentary Feature and “Sorry We Missed You” directed by Ken Loach won the award for Best Narrative Feature. “Just Mercy” directed by Destin Daniel Cretton was voted Best Film by the audience.

POV on PBS explores the shadowy nexus of pro sports and the migrant trail in the Cuban baseball documentary film The Last Out, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Sami Khan (St. Louis Superman) and Michael Gassert. The 2022 Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) will wrap up with a first look at IFFLA alum Kahlil Maskati’s feature screenplay, Alim Uncle, presented as a live table read and a preview of Nimisha Mukerji’s New Country.
