‘Freeland’ Closes Oxford Film Festival’s 15th Weekly Series

Oxford Film Festival Weekly Virtual Fest | Freeland by Kate Mclean and Mario Furloni

The Oxford Film Festival announced the dates for next year’s edition of the popular and critically-acclaimed film festival, which will take place March 24-28, 2021. The current plans for that upcoming edition of the film festival will feature a hybrid approach, including virtual and drive-in presentations, as well as the prospect of returning to theaters.

Oxford Film Festival unveiled its Weekly Virtual Film Festival series showcasing films that were set to be featured in the 2020 program.
The weekly program, which started the last week of April, has previewed a series of films each successive week, with themed presentations throughout the summer and fall as an alternative to the festival that was postponed in March.

The Oxford Film Festival celebrates the art of independent cinema. Through year-round programming, the festival works to encourage filmmaking in Oxford and North Mississippi as part of the global film community while cultivating audience appreciation of cinema through screenings, workshops, and educational programs that culminate in the annual festival.

For the last 15 weeks, Oxford Film Festival has partnered with various film distribution companies to screen indie titles as part of a Virtual Art House Network. The week’s Virtual Art House (August 1-7) is led by Romola Garai’s Amulet and Eli B. Despres and Josh Kriegman’s human rights documentary The Fight as well as Ron Howard’s Rebuilding Paradise.

Weekly Fest Films include four shorts collections including Missing, Ecletctic, “This is America,” and Doc shorts along wtih Haroula Rose’s Once Upon A River, based on the best-selling novel by Bonnie Jo Campbell. The closing night film will feature Kate Mclean and Mario Furloni’s Freeland

We are nearing the end of the virtual festival with our last Q&As focused on Mississippi Filmmakers and one of my favorite films Freeland which has one of the bumpiest feature film experiences this year so we are overjoyed to make that film our Closing “Night” feature, while continuing to provide a safe entertainment drive-in for Oxford and Water Valley.
