Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest Named Best Picture of 2023 by Toronto Film Critics

The Zone of Interest was honored as Best Picture of 2023 and Best Director for Jonathan Glazer at the Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) twenty seventh annual awards, recognizing excellence in film.

The TFCA eliminated gender-based acting categories for 2023 and Lily Gladstone was voted winner of Outstanding Lead Performance for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon along with Sandra Hüller for her role in Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall

For its two Outstanding Supporting Performance winners, the TFCA chose Ryan Gosling for his role as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for Alexander Payne’s movie The Holdovers.

The TFCA created a new category, Outstanding Performance in a Canadian Film which went to Glenn Howerton for his portrayal of Research in Motion CEO Jim Balsillie in Blackberry. Teyana Taylor won the Breakthrough Performance award for her work as a single mother in Harlem in A.V Rockwell’s A Thousand and One.

The British romantic comedy Rye Lane was awarded Best First Feature for director Raine Allen-Miller; Best International Film went to Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves; 20 Days in Mariupol was awarded the Allan King Documentary Film Award; and Pablo Berger’s Robot Dreams was named Best Animated Feature.
