2024 Tribeca Festival Unveils Short Films and Music Video Lineup

2024 Tribeca Festival

The 2024 Tribeca Festival unveiled its lineup of 87 short narrative, documentary, and animated films, including 65 films in competition and 10 music videos. This year’s Festival, which takes place June 5-16, showcases 12 short film sections, presented by Starbucks, programmed to delight audiences with heartwarming and hilarious storytelling.

The program’s four categories—narrative shorts, documentary shorts, animated shorts, and music videos—thematically highlight and explore bold stories of joy, love, and safety, showcasing expressions of Black freedom, the Latin American experience, and Caribbean culture. This year’s selections examine the follies of youth and the absurdities of life with humor and hubris.

World premieres include Motorcycle Mary, directed by Haley Watson and produced by two-time Oscar winner Ben Proudfoot and seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, a profile on legendary motorsports pioneer Mary McGee; Ripe!, directed by TUSK and produced by two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Kelley O’Hara, a not-so-straightforward queer love story; Bite starring Troian Bellisario, a story of regaining one’s identity after overcoming PTSD; and Out of the Dark: Cal Calamia, an intimate look at Cal Calamia, a transgender marathon runner advocating for athletic inclusion. The New York narrative shorts lineup includes the world premieres of Happy to Help You starring Amy Sedaris and Jeremy Beiler, and Veo Veo A Family, a story of familial bonds starring Carla Gugino and KO.

Whoopi Goldberg’s curated animated shorts program celebrates enduring friendships in Nate & John, escaping loneliness with adventure in the anime short Budō, and overcoming mental health challenges in In The Shadow Of the Cypress.

Additionally, the electrifying music video lineup, curated by music video programmer Sharon Badal, spans pop country pulsating rhythms with Lanie Gardner’s Six Feet Deep; the latest retro synth-pop hit from Conan Gray; Never Ending Song, an electro-funk song from Wednesday Campanella; Prince Shoutoku, an all-new Bad Bunny musical from Armani Ortiz; and the heartfelt melodies of Zach Bryan’s Nine Ball.
