Synopsis

A twist-filled multi-verse thriller from Graham Hughes (Death Of A Vlogger), ‘Hostile Dimensions’ follows two documentary filmmakers who decide to investigate the disappearance of a graffiti artist who seemingly ‘vanished’. As they delve deeper into their research, they encounter an ominous freestanding door which leads them on a dark journey through the dimensions behind it. Determined to uncover the truth the pair soon realize they have stumbled across something far more terrifying than they could have ever imagined.

Director Graham Hughes comments about the found-footage style of filming in an interview with NYX Canada, saying “I love the immediacy. There’s a much more instant visceral connection with the medium. I love that it allows a lot more creative freedom, in some ways. Sometimes because of the restrictions it imposes. For instance, I’ve only seen one good use of a 360 camera outside of found footage, as it’s kind of difficult to justify. I also love the accessibility of the medium for emerging and low-budget filmmakers.”

Reviews

Jennie Kermode in an Eye For Film review gave the film praises, giving it a score of 3/5, writing “Though it might seem to be all over the place – structurally as well as thematically – there’s a tight control underlying Hostile Dimensions which pretty much holds it together and delivers a satisfying story. Hughes may not have budget to make it a full on visual spectacular but he nevertheless delivers some magical moments, whilst his skills as an editor come to the fore in a marvellously inventive chase scene towards the end.”

Joel Harley in a Starburst Magazine review wrote “With everyone from Spider-Man to Rick & Morty getting in on the Multiverse, the concept is already pretty old hat, but this cheerily low-key sci-fi proves that it shouldn’t be relegated entirely to superheroes and snarky cartoons.”
