Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander will be honored at Zurich Film Festival with a Golden Eye Award “for her extraordinary and remarkable versatility”; and attend the Swiss premiere of her new film The Assessment by director Fleur Fortuné.
“I am incredibly honoured to be receiving the Golden Eye Award at Zurich Film Festival and proud to be amongst such a talented list of past honourees. I was last there in 2017, for the ZFF Masters and premiere of Euphoria, and am so pleased to be returning to the festival once again this year.”
Vikander will present her new film The Assessment, in which she stars opposite Elizabeth Olsen, at the Gala Premiere on October 8. The film by director Fleur Fortuné tells the story of a society striving for perfection, living in a world devastated by climate change, trying to optimize life – including the assessment of parenthood. A successful couple is examined by an assessor for seven days to determine their suitability to have children. In The Assessment, Vikander once again takes on a challenging role that represents another highlight in her already impressive career.
From Göteborg to Hollywood: Alicia Vikander has demonstrated her versatility, starring in auteur films and blockbusters like Ex Machina, The Danish Girl, Anna Karenina, Jason Bourne, The Green Knight or Tomb Raider. In 2015 she was awarded an Oscar® for her performance as Gerda Wegener in Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl, as well as a host of other awards including a SAG Award and Critics Choice Award. Alicia also garnered multiple nominations including Golden Globe and BAFTA, both of which she was nominated in two categories – Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl and Ex Machina respectively. Vikander will be awarded a Golden Eye at the 20th Zurich Film Festival for her outstanding acting performance and her consistently courageous and clever choice of roles:
Previous award winners include Diane Kruger, Eddie Redmayne, Iris Berben, Kristen Stewart, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Malkovich, Helen Hunt and Olivia Colman.
In addition to her acting career, Vikander has made her mark as a producer. Under her own production banner, Vikarious Production, she debuted with the film Euphoria (2017), starring alongside Eva Green. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017, followed by its European premiere at the Zurich Film Festival. Vikander’s extensive filmography also includes titles such as Firebrand (2023), Irma Vep (2022), Blue Bayou (2021), The Light Between Oceans (2016), Submergence (2017), and the Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015).
“We are delighted that Alicia Vikander is returning to the ZFF for our 20th anniversary after visiting us in 2017. It was a great pleasure to meet her at the 2023 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. On that occasion, I told her about our anniversary and mentioned how happy we would be to welcome her back to Zurich. We are all the more thrilled that it worked out – and that we are able to show her new film The Assessment as a Swiss premiere at the ZFF. Vikander is a versatile and extraordinary character actress who captivates her audience with her compelling aura,” says Christian Jungen, Artistic Director of the Zurich Film Festival.
