Returning to comedy films after directing the modern Halloween trilogy, David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Your Highness) presents Nutcrackers, a family comedy film starring Ben Stiller.
The film which world premiered at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival, follows a workaholic (Stiller) who must look after his four nephews after their parents suffer a terrible accident.
Nutcrackers also stars Linda Cardellini, Homer Janson, Ulysses Janson, Atlas Janson, Arlo Janson, Toby Huss, Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker, and Maren Heisler.

Synopsis
Hotshot Chicago real estate developer Michael (Stiller) never had time for family. His sister once said he was incapable of love. But when Michael’s sister and her husband have a terrible accident, their house, farm, and four boys become Michael’s responsibility. He drives out to his sister’s small Ohio town thinking all he needs to do is sign some papers and get back to the city, but it’s not nearly that simple. With the parents gone, the boys are practically feral. Until the family services worker (Linda Cardellini) can find them a home, their only guardian is Uncle Mike. Before he knows it, he is chasing chickens & providing improvised “health” classes. Desperate to free himself from inherited fatherhood, he’s both surprised and thrilled to learn his sister trained her boys in ballet. Can that make them cute enough to foster?

Kate Erbland in an IndieWire review gave the film a B-, writing, “Mostly, it’s refreshing to see Green doing whatever he likes, combining some of his favorite elements to make a new film that feels as good for his soul as the audience’s.”
Louis Roberts in a Loud and Clear Reviews gave the film a 3/5, writing, “Its plot barely hangs together and its themes don’t come close to a satisfying resolution, but somehow Nutcrackers feels like more than the sum of its parts.”
