Saint-Narcisse, a film by Bruce LaBruce, recently selected as the Closing Night Gala of the Venice Days program (Giornate degli Autori) at the Venice Film Festival, has been picked up for distribution in Canada by Northern Banner Releasing.

Set in 1972 Canada, the film follows Dominic, a 22-year-old who has a fetish… for himself. When his loving grandmother dies, he discovers a deep family secret: his lesbian mother didn’t die in childbirth and he has a twin brother, Daniel, raised in a remote monastery by a depraved priest! The power of destiny brings back together the two beautiful, identical brothers, who, after being reunited with their mother Beatrice, are soon embroiled in a strange web of sex, revenge and redemption.

LaBruce is a filmmaker, photographer, and artist based in Toronto and working internationally.

Along with a number of short films, LaBruce has written and directed 11 feature films, including Gerontophilia, which premiered in Venice Days in 2013 and Pierrot Lunaire, awarded the Teddy Award in Berlinale 2014.

Saint-Narcisse stars newcomer Felix-Antoine Duval as the twins, Tania Kontoyanni, Alexandra Petrachuk and Andreas Apergis.

Northern Banner Releasing will release Saint-Narcisse in English Canada, and A-Z Films will release in Quebec.

Northern Banner Releasing is Raven Banner Entertainment’s specialty distribution arm focused on award-winning independent films.

“We’ve been following Bruce for years and are stoked to share Saint-Narcisse to Canadians and show this artist’s bravery and style to everyone,” says Northern Banner’s Michael Paszt.
