Vertical Entertainment acquired writer-director Sabrina Doyle’s debut feature drama film “Lorelei” which premiered at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. The film starring Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, The Neon Demon) and Emmy and Tony nominee Pablo Schreiber (13 Hours, Orange is the New Black) is expected to be released in theaters and on demand this summer.

Lorelei is a working-class fable about a biker, a mermaid, and three shades of blue. Wayland (Pablo Schreiber) has been in prison for 15 years for armed robbery. Upon his release, he returns to his blue-collar hometown and inadvertently reconnects with his high school girlfriend Dolores (Jena Malone), now a single mother struggling to support her three kids, who are all named after different shades of blue. Soon after their reunion, Wayland moves in with the chaotic family and becomes a reluctant yet much-needed father figure. Struggling to pay the bills, Wayland finds himself drawn back to his old ways as Dolores yearns for her pre-motherhood dream of living in Los Angeles.

Lorelei won the Jury Prize at the Deauville American Film Festival. It also picked up Jury and Audience Awards at the Mannheim-Heidelberg Film Festival in Germany and Audience and Best Actress Awards at the inaugural Reel Love Film Festival. The film was also nominated at the São Paulo International Film Festival for Lorelei in the New Director’s Competition category and at the upcoming Miami Film Festival for the Jordan Ressler First Feature Award. It was additionally a recipient of the Stella Artois Women in Film Award.

Sabrina Doyle is a British writer/director based between Los Angeles and London. Her film work has been recognized and supported by Women in Film LA, Google, the Nicholl Fellowship, the Mary Pickford Foundation, BAFTA Los Angeles, and the US-UK Fulbright Commission. A graduate of the American Film Institute and Cambridge University, she also spent a number of years working as a BBC journalist. The late Sir Alan Parker called her work, “refreshingly intelligent, serious and lyrical. Much needed in tomorrow’s cinema.”
