Helmed by two-time Oscar-nominated director of Logan and Ford v Ferrari, James Mangold, A Complete Unknown is a biographical film on the legendary musician Bob Dylan. The film follows a 19-year-old Dylan played by Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name, Dune).
A Complete Unknown will be Mangold’s second musical biographical film after 2005’s Walk the Line, a multi-award-winning biopic of musician Johnny Cash featuring Joaquin Phoenix in the leading role.
Starring the film alongside Chalamet are Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Norbert Leo Butz, Scoot McNairy, and P. J. Byrne.

Directed by James Mangold, A Complete Unknown opens in US theaters this Christmas on December 25, 2024.
Synopsis
Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A Complete Unknown follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan’s (Timothée Chalamet) meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.
“I think one of the things Timmy is so brilliant at playing in the movie and something I think Bob related to me, is a true feeling — which is that it’s also about, how does one deal with that burden? How you yourself, if you have this power, aren’t even sure exactly where it’s coming from,” said director James Mangold in an interview with Rolling Stone. “You’re trying to protect it and cherish it, but you’re also not sure if it will lift you or destroy you. And so there’s an ambivalent relationship for all the characters with this idea of immense talent.”
