Soenke Wortmann’s “Pope Joan” was awarded Best Narrative Feature, and Rob Lemkin and Thet Sambath’s “Enemies of the People” was awarded Best Documentary Feature at the 2010 Ojai Film Festival.
Nominated for three German Film Awards including Best Costumes, Production Design and Supporting Actress, Pope Joan (in German with English subtitles) is described as “She is the legend that will not die – Pope Joan, the 9th century woman who disguised herself as a man and rose to become the only female ever to sit on the throne of St. Peter. Frustrated by the lack of opportunity for women, she entered a Benedictine monastery as a boy, to triumph over appalling odds.”
Enemies of the People documents “A young journalist whose family was killed by the Khmer Rouge spends a decade making friends with the men and women who directed and perpetrated the Killing Fields. He obtains ground-breaking accounts from the notorious grassroots killers and discovers a new and terrifying explanation for the genocide.”
