The Jury and Audience Award-winners of the 2011 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival were announced last night at the Festival’s Awards Ceremony.
Dragonslayer from director Tristan Patterson was awarded the Grand Jury Award in the Documentary Feature competition and Natural Selection, from Robbie Pickering was awarded the Grand Jury Award in the Narrative Feature competition.
Dragon Slayer documents the transmissions of a lost kid falling in love in the suburbs of Fullerton, California. Featuring skateboarding, the usual drugs, and stray glimpses of unusual beauty. Starring Rachael Harris, Matt O’Leary, Jon Gries, and John Diehl, Natural Selection tells the story of when a dutiful, albeit barren, housewife discovers that her ailing husband has an illegitimate son, she sets out to find the young man and reunite him with her husband before he dies.
SXSW also announced the Jury Award-winners in Shorts Filmmaking and Film Design Awards, and Special Awards, including the Louis Black Lone Star Award, the SXSW Chicken & Egg Emergent Narrative Woman Director Award and the SXSW Wholphin Award.
