Mad Dog:  Inside the Secret World of Muammar Gaddafi premieres April 11th on Showtime.  The film pulls back the curtain on the eccentricities and horrors of Muammar Gaddafi which will undoubtedly be back in the news as the trials of his sons and his intelligence chief begins.    Among Gaddafi’s top henchmen being tried in Tripoli are his two sons – Saif and Saadi – who are seen in MAD DOG.  According to Middle East Online,  the trials begin on April 14.

Below is a list of ten of the stunning revelations described in the film. 

1. He used the same Brazilian plastic surgeon as Silvio Berlusconi.  Libyan surgeons were too terrified to operate on him. He would have his surgeries at 3 o’clock in the morning in his private operating room.

2. When he traveled abroad, he went with an elaborate bullet proof tent, complete with a team of camels.

3. He kept a harem of female body guards.

4. Political dissidents were put on ice, literally.  He kept a freezer where he would preserve the corpses of his adversaries and would visit them from time to time. 

5. An African pop song “King of Africa” was commissioned to reinforce his crazed belief that he was a descendant of African royalty. 

6. He would routinely visit local elementary schools and procure both young girls and boys for his sexual pleasure.

7. A German engineer from a Nazi-founded rocket company was retained to help him “Destroy Israel.”

8. His warlord mentoring included countless guerrilla fighters, including Charles Taylor, a disgraced former Libyan warlord and President, who according to the Hague was “found responsible for aiding and abetting as well as planning some of the most heinous and brutal crimes recorded in human history.”

9. A nine month old baby’s mouth was mutilated because the child’s father smiled during one of his speeches.

10. In addition to testing chemical weapons on political prisoners, he once personally shot over 1000 prisoners in a Tripoli jail for demanding more food.
