Courage is an inspiring and encouraging documentary about the peaceful uprising of the people of Belarus against injustice and the brutal repression of their democracy movements.

Director Belarus filmmaker Aliaksei Paluyan managed to get the footage out of the country just in time before the borders were virtually sealed off for filmmakers and media representatives.

The film will premiere at the Online Industry Event (March 1-5, 2021) of the 71st Berlin International Film Festival.

In the course of the presidential elections in Belarus in the summer of 2020, Maryna, Pavel and Denis, three actors from an underground theater in Minsk, get caught up in the maelstrom of mass protests that draw them to the streets to demonstrate loudly for freedom of expression and the long-awaited change of power. But their peaceful protest is brutally put down by the regime’s security apparatus. Members of the theater group and many other people get arrested.

Courage accompanies the courageous and peaceful resistance of these three protagonists before and during the protests. The film takes a very personal look at the events, gives a close and gripping insight into the lives of people in today’s Belarus, who fight for their freedom and the right to democracy.

The film is presented by Living Pictures Production (Production) and Rise and Shine (World Sales / German Distribution) with first online market screening date: Friday, March 5, 2021.. Further dates tba.
