Happening (L’Evenement)

The French drama Happening (L’Evenement) directed by Audrey Diwan is the winner of the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 78th Venice International Film Festival. The film, based on the Annie Ernaux’s novel of the same name, recounts the journey of a young woman’s physical and emotional battle to access illegal abortion in a desperate race against the clock.

The Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize went to Paolo Sorrentino’s Netflix drama The Hand of God (È stata la mano di Dio).

Other winners include Jane Campion won Silver Lion – Best Director Award for The Power of The Dog; Penélope Cruz won for Best Actress for “Madres Paralelas” (Parallel Mothers) and Maggie Gyllenhaal
won the Award for Best Screenplay for the film The Lost Daughter.
