The IV Rock Horror Film Festival 2021 is rolling in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil until November 14th with a selection of 54 genres films from 20 countries ranging from hard rock to soft blues fear levels.
In the Sinister Feature category, a powerful and bloodthirsty selection of nine films ranging from horror to sci-fi with lots of scares, effects, mindtwists and creepy plots. Among them are the Americans “Girl Next”, by Larry Wade Carrell; “Death Cast” by Bobby Marinelli; and “American Cannibals”, by Charles David Ruiz III and John Rainwaters, the latter mixes documentary and fiction and features true vampires in its cast. All of them will participate in roundtables with Chrys Rochat, director of the festival, on the youtube channel for those who want to know more about what is behind these films. Also, in the feature selection, the powerful Argentines “Leni”, by Federico Gianotti, who will also participate at a table, and the fantastic “Matar Al Dragón”, by Jimena Monteoliva. The French “Anonymous Animals”, by Baptiste Rouveure, plays with the role reversal between humans and animals with strong social criticism, albeit speechless, as the film uses only images to deliver its strong message. The Brazilian saga “O Cemitério das Almas Perdidas”, by Rodrigo Aragão, which mixes terror, folklore and adventure, is also a must see. The German “Sky Sharks” and the Canadian “Parallel Minds” bring science fiction, intricate plots and great images for the adrenaline-loving audience.
In the Bizarre Featurettes selection a wide range of subjects in five films: the Brazilians “Um Conselho”, by Rubens Marinelli and Daniela Cortez; “Story.Telling”, by Fábio Brandão; in addition to the German “Computerliebe”, by Mathias Götz, the French “Myosotis”, by Félix Dobaire and the American “Lost Treasure of the Valley”, which brings the actress Lori Beth Denberg. All directors will participate at the tables.
Beautiful images and original plots permeate the selection of 14 Macabre Shorts, including the Australian “Evie”, by Alex Von Hofmann and screenplay by Luke Martin, which will feature at the tables and show dragons in a dystopian Australian outback; the zombie apocalypse “The Taxi Dead” by the German Simon Lahm and the American “Dead End Drive”, by Tobias Forrest which is a film made with a crew and cast of mostly disabled people.
In the vast selection of Pills of Fear, some curiosities such as the films that portray sketches of the pandemic in a creative way, such as the Israeli “While We Were Home”, by Gil Vesely and the Uruguayan “Made in China”, by Ale Damiani.
Women arrive empowered with their shorts like the French “Equilibre”, by Pat La Feline and Daria Panchenko; the Greek “Hansel”, by Vivian Papageorgiou, and in in the Pills section, the American “Zodiak”, by Remi Noir and “Tinder Tango”, by Cecília Robles.
The incredible selection of Hair-raising Animations comes strong with a selection of 11 short films, vastly awarded at several major festivals, and with exceptional creativity. Among them, we highlight the Argentinean “Anacronte”, by Raúl Koler and Emiliano Sette; the Russian “Boxbalet”, by Anton Dyakov; in addition to the Dutch “Camouflage”, by Remco Polman and “Re-Animal”, by Ruben Garcerá Soto, who will participate in the tables.
This year’s jury is composed of professionals and artists of great relevance in the market, they are: Salomón Reyes, Nox Film Fest (Uruguay); David Lipper (USA); Juanra Fernandez (Spain), José Quental MAM-Rio; Babita Mendonça; Joana Lima, CTAV; Jussan Silva e Silva, Monica Demes; Alexandre Cunha, Canal Brasil; Fernando Arze; Ricardo Schott; Diana Barrows; Evandro Melo, Rota Festival; Hsu Chien; Flávio Soares and graphic artist Céllus.
The festival’s rock nights in partnership with Roque no Apê brings rock shows every night at 9 pm BRT on the festival’s channel. This year, the festival presents the following bands: Líbera, Casquilho eo Archanjo, U2 Rio Tributo, Os Folkswagens, A Batida que Pulou seu Coração, Big Joe Manfra & Pedro Quental, Sergio Rocha & Crossfire Tribute Band, Stringbreaker and The Stuffbreakers, Junior Del Campo, Los Ídolos Del Momento (Mexico) and Laranjeletric.
