Argentinian world-renowned chef Mauro Colagreco recently traveled from his 3-Michelin Star restaurant Mirazur in Menton, on the French Riviera to attend the Tribeca Film Festival for the North American Premiere of his new documentary feature film Reinventing Mirazur.
Directed by Vérane Frédiani, Franck Ribière (Steak Revolution, A La Recherche Des Femmes Chefs), the film takes a deep dive into the life of Chef Mauro, who finds himself changing everything about his flagship restaurant after the COVID-19 pandemic halted his worldwide rise to prominence.
Reinvigoration and culinary exploration are what drives Chef Mauro, as well as this documentary about his life. Reinventing Mirazur documents Colagreco’s life and his cuisine, rooted in both the traditions of French gastronomy and deep connection to the natural world, for which he has received worldwide acclaim. Just as he’s established himself as the best working chef in the world, something unexpected happens – Mirazur is forced to shutter as the COVID-19 pandemic rattles the restaurant industry. With his culinary vision reinvigorated, Colagreco and his team of chefs and restaurant managers work to put Mirazur back on the map after its forced hiatus with an ambitious reinvention.
Restaurants all over the world have been significantly affected by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This documentary is a testament to the resilience and creativity of chefs, as well as the employees that ensure the best experience possible. Just make sure you’re not hungry before watching this.
The film began production in 2019 right after Chef Mauro Colagreco and his team won “World’s Best Restaurant”, from 50 Best’s panel of 1,080 chefs, journalists, and culinary experts. Reinventing Mirazur is contending for the interdisciplinary, juried Human Nature Award, recognizing the best environmental stories of the year that spotlight pressing issues around climate, conservation, and the natural world.
Chef Mauro Colagreco stated: “These last two years were quite special and unique and will always be remembered by the Mirazur team and my family. With directors Franck and Verane we went through this period with a lot of doubt and fear but we also shared some beautiful moments that this movie captured incredibly. I am very proud to show this movie in TriBeCa and very pleased to discuss it with an audience.”
