The 64th Nordic Film Days Lübeck festival will open with the German premiere of the Danish jazz documentary Music for Black Pigeons by Jørgen Leth and Andreas Koefoed.
This documentary poses existential questions to influential jazz musicians such as Bill Frisell, Lee Konitz, Midori Takada, and many others. What is it like to play the music, and what does it mean to listen? The filmmakers followed Danish composer and guitarist Jakob Bro for 14 years, as he meets and plays with celebrated and eccentric musicians from a range of generations and nations. Using Bro’s compositions, they explore the musical space – and answer some of the questions that the film poses, in their own poetic, life-affirming, and entertaining ways. The film had its world premiere at this year’s Venice International Film Festival.
