Roadside Attractions debuted the official trailer for The Last Rider, the sports documentary film on the cyclist Greg Lemond who came back from the brink of death with a bullet hole in his stomach to win the 1989 Tour de France.
He was accidentally shot and seriously injured while hunting in 1987 and missed the next two Tours. At the 1989 Tour, he completed a comeback to win, and successfully defended his Tour title the following year. LeMond retired from competition in December 1994.
LeMond is considered to be the greatest American cyclist of all time, winning the Tour de France a total of three times and the Road Race World Championship twice, becoming the only American male to win the Tour de France.
Starring in the film are Greg LeMond, his wife Kathy LeMond, Pedro Delgado, Laurent Fignon.
Directed by Alex Holmes, The Last Rider premiered at the 2022 Telluride Film Festival, and will open in theaters with a release date of June 23rd, 2023.
