Kino Lorber dropped the full official trailer for Final Cut, Oscar® winner Michel Hazanavicius’ (The Artist) remake of the Japanese cult hit One Cut of the Dead.
The film is a hilarious and blood-soaked horror comedy about a director making a live, single-take, low-budget zombie flick in which the cast and crew, one by one, actually turn into zombies.
Starring in the zombie comedy are Romain Duris, Bérénice Bejo, Matilda Lutz, and Finnegan Oldfield.
Final Cut opens in theaters with a release date of July 14th, 2023.
Oscar® winner Michel Hazanavicius’ remake of Shin’ichirô Ueda’s cult hit One Cut of the Dead follows a director (Romain Duris, L’Auberge Espagnole) charged with making a live, single-take, low-budget zombie flick in which the cast and crew, one by one, actually turn into zombies. Featuring hysterically unhinged performances from Oscar® nominee Bérénice Bejo (The Artist), Matilda Lutz (Revenge), and Finnegan Oldfield (Corsage), Final Cut is a sly love letter to the art of filmmaking and a blood-soaked, hilarious genre farce with a meta-to-the-max premise.
In its Cannes debut review, Hollywood Reporter said “To be honest, though, Final Cut is really just a zombie movie, which by now is a universal and well-worn genre. If anything, the director could be accused of profiting off someone else’s great idea, though he certainly paid for it — the budget here is way higher than that of One Cut of the Dead — and, as the saying goes, “you steal from the best.” Just as zombies never die, this is a concept that can keep coming back until it’s finally killed off for good.”
Giving the film a 3 out of 5 stars, The Guardian wrote, “It’s an entertaining piece of work – and a genuine oddity, ostensibly about cinema, but more about the live theatre experience. It may yet have found a way to breathe new life into the zombie genre itself.”
