The film world premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and went on to screen at over ninety film festivals worldwide, winning over twenty awards including the Grand Prix at the Animafest Zagreb.
Release Date
Directed by Signe Baumane (Rocks in My Pockets), My Love Affair With Marriage will have its US theatrical release at The Quad in New York on October 6, and at Laemmle Glendale in Los Angeles on October 13 (with a preview screening on October 12 at the Laemmle Royal). Other cities will follow.
Synopsis
My Love Affair With Marriage follows Zelma on her 23-year quest for perfect love and lasting marriage set against a backdrop of historic events in Eastern Europe.
Told from a woman’s point of view, the film blends historical, biological, societal, and emotional arcs with a lively sense of humor and musical numbers. This animated film for adults tackles the issues of love, gender norms, domestic violence, fantasies, and toxic relationships to propel a woman’s journey toward independence and liberation.

“However, with a strong, emotional core, My Love Affair with Marriage is still an imaginative narrative that looks at gender roles and identity. It’s mostly light-hearted, and sadly the tone can sometimes conflict with the deeper themes the film is trying to get across. But still, this animated movie makes up for any shortcomings with its overall style and atmosphere.”
