Bobi Wine: The People’s President, the documentary directed by Moses Bwayo and Christopher Sharp on pop star-turned-politician Bobi Wine, as he runs in Uganda’s 2021 presidential election, won the top award – Best Feature Documentary at the 39th IDA Documentary Awards.

Asmae El Moudir won Best Director for The Mother of All Lies, the film selected as the Moroccan entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards explores the director’s search for truth in her family background.

Other film awards including Best Cinematography went to Ants Tammik for Smoke Sauna Sisterhood; Best Editing went to Carolina Siraqyan for The Eternal Memory; Best Writing Award was won by Kaouther Ben Hania for her documentary Four Daughters; and Leonard Küssner won Best Original Music Score for Anselm.
