Quiver revealed the official trailer for Willie and Me, the comedy drama film starring Eva Hassmann as a German housewife who will do whatever it takes to travel to America to see her idol Willie Nelson’s farewell concert.

Also starring in the film are Peter Bogdanovich in his final screen performance along with Blaine Gray, Darby Stanchfield, Thure Riefenstein, Carlos Leal, and Willie Nelson.

Release Date

Directed by actress Eva Hassmann making her feature directorial debut, Willie And Me premiered as the opening film of Oldenburg Film Festival, and opens in theaters and on demand on February 9th, 2024.

Synopsis

In Willie and Me, Greta Weingarten (Hassmann) is a housewife who is trapped in a stagnant marriage. One evening while serving dinner to her successful but bland husband, she hears a radio announcement about Willie Nelson’s farewell concert. Through his music, she is transported back to her disjointed childhood. Greta is suddenly overwhelmed by the need to see Willie Nelson and will do whatever it takes to be at his last concert in Las Vegas. She takes off on her journey, leaving behind the husband and comfortable life she knows. With everything against her, but so much ahead, she realizes that the return ticket becomes her heaviest piece of luggage.

In their review, The Hollywood Reporter describes Hassman as “….a fine screen comedian, willing to downplay her striking looks with a go-for-broke silliness that proves endearing” adding, “But much like the songs of Willie Nelson that populate its soundtrack, the film relies on a general uplifting atmosphere as the indefatigable Greta stops at nothing to fulfill her dream. Along the way, she gets bitten by a rattlesnake, is rescued by a mysterious stranger, has a heartwarming up-close-and- personal encounter with her idol and falls for Nick.”
