Academy, Tony, and Emmy Award-winning actress Jessica Lange has been named the recipient of the first CineMerit Award of this year’s 2024 Munich International Film Festival (Filmfest München) taking place from June 28 to July 7, 2024. Lange will receive the CineMerit in honor of her achievement in the art of film.
Jessica Lange is known for her unforgettable roles in such films as “Tootsie”, “Frances”, and “Blue Sky”, and has achieved what is known as the “triple crown of acting”, earning two Oscars, three Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award — as well as five Golden Globes. Currently she is nominated for another Tony Award for her portrayal in Paula Vogel’s “Mother Play,” which opened on Broadway April 25.
“Our CineMerit Award is our way of honoring excellent artists who come to Munich with a meaningful project and important causes. Jessica Lange is a wonderful fit for us. For decades, she has continually reinvented herself as an actress. Her upcoming photo exhibition will give us the opportunity to reveal yet another facet of her artistic achievement.” — Festival Director Christoph Gröner and Artistic Co-Director Julia Weigl
At this year’s Filmfest München, Jessica Lange will be presenting the audience a selection of films that are particularly dear to her heart and for the first time, and publicly present a selection of her own fine-art photography at the Deutsches Theatermuseum.
Jessica Lange will also be presenting selected photographs from her new photo book, “Dérive”, in Munich in a three-month exhibition at the Deutsches Theatermuseum. This sensitive photographic work focuses on intimate and surreal but undeniably human moments that Lange captured in New York City during the non-time of the COVID-19 lockdown. Her images of empty streets and sights, deserted clubs and restaurants never convey desolation; instead, they depict the energy of the metropolis in an unusual way.
