Dark Sky Films revealed the official trailer for ‘Booger’, writer/director Mary Dauterman’s feature film debut. The film premiered at last year’s Fantasia Film Festival and gained critical acclaim for its bold and captivating depiction of grief.
Starring in the film are Grace Glowicki (Strawberry Mansion, Tito, Until Branches Bend), Garrick Bernard (Single Drunk Female), Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse, Scream), Marcia DeBonis (Sometimes I Think About Dying, 13 Going on 30), Sofia Dobrushin (WeCrashed).

Synopsis
New Yorker Anna (Grace Glowicki, Strawberry Mansion) has just suffered the sudden and unexpected death of her best friend and roommate, Izzy (Sofia Dobrushin, Mean Girls 2024). She’s trying to handle this loss when Izzy’s cat, Booger, runs away. Anna goes on a desperate search to find him and in the process, she is bitten on the hand by the cat. She soon begins to take on feline characteristics. and her work life and relationship with her boyfriend start to go downhill.
In an interview with Eye For Film, writer/director Mary Dauterman says, “Writing this was definitely the biggest emotional subject I could tackle. It became a really interesting learning process and a really emotional process. I felt like the movie was working more the more I could bring to it emotionally. Things just started feeling more connected, and like the movie had more meaning to it, if I could bring some of that to it, rather than wall to wall jokes.” about writing the film.
Reviews
Nick Allen in a RogerEbert.com review wrote, “Booger showcases Dauterman’s budding senses as a filmmaker. If the movie seems weakened by the common horror metaphor for grief, the body horror of “Booger” invites us into its grimy world. As Anna’s cat-like mannerisms kick in, Dauterman offers an array of fitfully trippy dream sequences comprising jarring cuts, foggy lenses, striking light color schemes, and impressive cat-adjacent prosthetics.”
Maggie Lovitt in a Collider review gave the film a B+ score, writing, “Dauterman’s feature debut is a must-watch for horror connoisseurs who prefer horror films that make them think, despite how unsettling that sort of introspection might be. Booger is a bold and refreshing journey into grief and the damaging effects of holding it in when it desperately wants to claw its way out.”
