Two critically acclaimed films from A24, Alex Garland’s ‘Civil War’ and Jane Schoenbrun’s ‘I Saw the TV Glow’ are making their streaming debut this September on Max.
Directed by Alex Garland, ‘Civil War’ paints a picture of a dystopian America, where a civil war has emerged and the country is in chaos. The film follows a team of military-embedded journalists as they race against time to reach Washington D.C. before rebel factions descend upon the White House.
The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, and Nick Offerman. ‘Civil War’ had its world premiere at the 2024 SXSW Festival, and was released theatrically on April 12, 2024.
‘Civil War’ will be available to stream on Max starting September 13, 2024. The film will air on HBO the following day on September 14, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Alongside ‘Civil War’, Jane Schoenbrun’s ‘I Saw the TV Glow’ will also make its Max debut this september. Acting as an allegory for being transgender, the surreal horror/drama film tells the story of Owen, a teenager who is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show. The TV show, a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own, leads to cracks in Owen’s own view of reality.
The film stars Justice Smith, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Ian Foreman, Helena Howard, with Fred Durst and Danielle Deadwyler. ‘I Saw the TV Glow’ had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, and was released in limited US theaters on May 3, 2024.
‘I Saw the TV Glow’ will be available to stream on Max starting September 20, 2024. The film will air on HBO the following day on September 21, 2024 at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT.
