Synopsis
‘Omni Loop’ follows Zoya Lowe (Mary Louise Parker), a quantum physicist who finds herself in a time loop, with a black hole growing in her chest and only a week to live. But what the doctors and her family don’t know is that she has already lived this week before; so many times, in fact, that she doesn’t even know how long it’s been. Until one day Zoya meets a gifted student named Paula (Ayo Edebiri). Together they team up to save her life – and to unlock the mysteries of time travel.
“A lot of this movie came out of the fact that I just plain struggle with the concept of death. Probably much like every other person alive, I find it very hard to wrap my head around what feels like such a permanent loss. That someone can be here one moment and then be gone the next. That, in an instant, everything can change so profoundly — and again, so permanently.” says director Bernardo Britto about the inspiration of the story.
Reviews
Stephen Saito in a Variety review gave the film a positive review, writing, “Time may unravel in “Omni Loop,” but admirably, it opens up the space to think less about the secrets of the larger universe than to take stock of the smaller ones that exist around us.”
Brian Tallerico in a RogerEbert.com review also praised the film, writing, “It takes a bit too long to get going and ends a few too many times, but these are minor complaints for a really well-done piece of sci-fi storytelling, a movie that uses what seems like a familiar set-up in a new way.”
