Pamela Anderson will be honored with a Golden Eye Award at the 20th Zurich Film Festival, for her versatile career and her role in the film The Last Showgirl as Shelley, a 50-year-old showgirl who discovers her long-running show in coming to a close.
She will receive the award in person on October 4 , before presenting the film along with director Gia Coppola.
“Pamela poured her heart and soul into the character of Shelley and captivated us right from the start,” explains Christian Jungen, Artistic Director of the Zurich Film Festival. “She completely immersed herself in her character, turned Shelley’s inner life inside out with her facial expressions and made sure that we sympathized with her. A terrific performance, perhaps the best of her career, which deserves an Oscar nomination. We are therefore delighted to honor Pamela Anderson, this cult actress with whom many of us have grown up and who has reinvented herself time and again, at the ZFF.”
The movie’s synopsis reads: After 30 years, Shelley’s (Pamela Anderson) show in Las Vegas is cancelled. Now, the 50-year-old showgirl faces an uncertain future and tries to mend her long-neglected relationship with her daughter, with the help of her colleague Annette (Jamie Lee Curtis).”
Also starring in The Last Showgirl, which world premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, are Dave Bautista, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka and Billie Lourd.
Pamela Anderson joins Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet and Jude Law who will also receive Golden Eye Awards at the upcoming festival.
The 20th edition of Zurich Film Festival will take place from October 3 to October 13, 2024, opening with director Justin Kurzel’s political thriller The Order starring Jude Law.
