A24 revealed the official trailer for Friendship, a “laugh-until-you-cry nightmare comedy about male bonding gone awry” starring Tim Robinson, Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Paul Rudd.
Written and directed by Andrew DeYoung, making his directorial debut, the movie world premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival in the Midnight Madness program where it won second runner-up for People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award.
Friendship opens in theaters in the US on May 9, 2025.
In the film Tim Robinson stars as suburban dad Craig falling hard for his charismatic new neighbor played by Paul Rudd, as Craig’s attempts to make an adult male friend threaten to ruin both of their lives.
Calling the film the “funniest film of the year” in their review, Daily Beast wrote, “Friendship is Robinson’s first attempt at expanding his persona in a feature-length project, and it’s as feverishly and hilariously demented as one would expect. Pairing him with Paul Rudd in a story about male need, camaraderie, and obsession, Andrew DeYoung’s film is full of trademark circumstances, stunts, and screams that fans of the star’s small-screen effort will instantly recognize as more of the same.
What truly elevates Robinson’s maiden cinematic outing, however, is its recognition that, at heart, his oddballs aren’t just harmless goofs—they’re unhinged psychopaths.”
