
Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight walked away with the Outstanding Motion Picture at the 56th NAACP Image Awards, along with Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for Kerry Washington, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for Ebony Obsidian.
Greg Kwedar’s Sing Sing was named Outstanding Independent Motion Picture.
Dawn Porter’s Luther: Never Too Much won Outstanding Documentary (Motion Picture) and Lagueria Davis’ Black Barbie: A Documentary (Netflix) won Outstanding Documentary (Television).
Nickel Boys was a double winner, nabbing awards for RaMell Ross for Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture, and also along with Joslyn Barnes for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris made her first public live television appearance to accept the Chairman’s Award; BET Media Group was honored with the Founders Award; Dave Chappelle received the President’s Award for outstanding achievements and distinguished public service; and the Wayans Family was inducted into the NAACP Hall of Fame.
A special segment featuring actor Morris Chestnut honored the historically Black community of Altadena, which was impacted by the Eaton wildfires; and after honoring those who have passed away with an in memoriam tribute, DJ D-Nice led a special tribute to the late Quincy Jones.
