Billy Joel: And So It Goes, a documentary portrait of the life and music of Billy Joel, directed by Emmy winners Susan Lacy (HBO’s Jane Fonda in Five Acts and Spielberg) and Jessica Levin (HBO’s The Janes and Jane Fonda in Five Acts), will debut on HBO and will be available to stream on Max this summer.

The documentary is described as an expansive portrait of the life and music of Billy Joel, exploring the love, loss, and personal struggles that fuel his songwriting. With unprecedented access to never-before-seen performances, home movies, and personal photographs, along with extensive, in-depth one-on-one interviews, the documentary intimately explores the life and work of Joel, whose music has endured across generations.

Susan Lacy, director and producer, commented “For those who think they know Joel’s story, as well as those who are not as familiar, I believe this two-part film is both a revelation and a surprise. I was drawn to his story as someone who knew little at the outset, and was astounded at how autobiographical his songs are and how complex his story is. We are gratified that Bill trusted us with his story, which we have told as honestly as possible, diving into territory which has not been explored before.”

78th Locarno Film Festival Unveils Official Poster Created by German artist Wolfgang Tillmans

The poster for the 78th edition of the Locarno Film Festival, depicting a leopard on a tree branch amid an acid trance of yellow and purple abstraction, was exclusively created by Turner Prize-winning German artist Wolfgang Tillmans for the Festival.

Tillmans produced the poster for the Locarno Film Festival using his experimental Xerox technique, which lends the image a blurry texture and allows the artist to approach composition through the lens of early digital abstraction. Combined with its psychedelic color palette, the poster is both a throwback to ’80s and ‘90s iterations of the Locarno poster, which were often impressionistic and themselves bordering on abstraction, as well as a bold reimagining of the visual landscape in which the cinema world’s most famous leopard finds itself.

Wolfgang Tillmans commented, “At first the brief seemed oddly specific: ‘Locarno poster must feature a leopard and the color yellow’. At the end of a long night session at my studio this January I felt happy that I answered the brief with an even more specific cocktail of three ingredients: On the glass window of my old color laser photocopier I brought together a photograph of a leopard lying on a tree, which I had taken in Kenya seven years ago, with two fake leopard fur mittens, which I had sewn myself as a sixteen years old teenager. The old school copier scans in four passes for the four colors CMYK and I moved the photo and the fluffy mittens in such a way that the scanning process revealed a good share of yellow in the resulting print, whilst other colors flashed up around the edges.”
