At the 36th GLAAD Media Awards held last night, Will & Harper walked away the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary. The documentary film directed by Josh Greenbaum, follows friends actor Will Ferrell and writer Harper Steele as they take a road trip following Steele’s recent gender transition.

The coming-of-age comedy drama film My Old Ass directed by Megan Park won for Outstanding Film – Wide Theatrical Release. The film stars Maisy Stella as an 18-year-old girl who encounters her 39-year-old self portrayed by Aubrey Plaza, during a mushroom trip.

The drama Crossing directed by Levan Akin won the award for Outstanding Film – Limited Theatrical Release. In the film, a retired teacher searching to find her long-lost niece, goes to Istanbul, where she meets a lawyer fighting for trans rights.

Actress Cynthia Erivo received the GLAAD’s Stephen F. Kolzak award and accepted the honor saying, “This is for those who have not yet even begun to find the road, be encouraged and be patient with yourself, it will show itself. I know this event is to celebrate the work and I am endlessly grateful for that honor and for this celebration, but the real work is making the ground we leave in our wake level enough for the next person who finds their way to the path we have made. For the person who is searching and searching and has not found it yet. This room is full of people who can and will, if they choose, and I hope they will, because I do, be lanterns to light up your journey and your path on your way to showing the world who you are.”
