TIFF has completed the lineup for the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival with the addition of six new feature films and Barry Avrich’s documentary, The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue.
Barry Avrich’s documentary, The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue, has taken an unusual path to its Toronto International Film Festival debut. The film captures retired Israel Defense Forces General Noam Tibon, who rescued his family, including his two granddaughters, who were surrounded by Hamas terrorists on October 7th, 2023. It was initially invited as part of TIFF’s lineup before being dropped from the program. A festival spokesperson told Deadline, that general requirements for inclusion in the festival, and conditions that were requested when the film was initially invited, were not met.
Days later, the festival officially invited the documentary to screen at the festival securing a place in the program. “We have worked together to find a resolution to satisfy important safety, legal and programming concerns. We are please to share that The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue will be an official TIFF selection at the festival this year, where we believe, it will contribute to the vital conversations that film is meant to inspire,” TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey and Avrich said in a joint statement.
The 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, presented by Rogers, will take place September 4–14, 2025.
