Dag Johan Haugerud’s Intimate Norwegian Drama ‘Dreams’ Opens in US Cinemas | Trailer

The intimate romantic drama film Dreams, part of Norwegian novelist/filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud’s LoveSex – Dreams: The Oslo Trilogy, will make its US theatrical premiere on September 12 at Film Forum in New York City, before expanding to other cities.

Starring in the film are Ela Øverbye (Johanne), Selome Emnetu (Johanna), Ane Dahl Torp (Kristin), Anne Marit Jacobsen (Karin), Andrine Sæther (Anne), Ingrid Giæver (Frøydis), Lars Jacob Holm (Psychologist), Nadia Bonnevie (Jenny), and Ela Bothner-By (Anine).

Dreams had its world premiere at the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival where it was awarded the highest prize, the Golden Bear, the first Norwegian film to win the honor.

In this third installment of the trilogy, 17-year-old Johanne drifts and daydreams like any teenager, until one day her restlessness morphs into all-consuming passion for her charismatic French teacher, Johanna. From her vulnerable yet never maudlin inner monologue, to her frank confessions to her poet grandmother and over-curious mother, to nuanced scenes of intimacy with Johanna, Haugerud paints a complex, endearing, and intoxicating portrait of youthful infatuation and self-discovery, laced with the lightest touch of moral inquiry.

Love – Sex – Dreams: The Oslo Trilogy are three distinct feature films linked by their themes of nontraditional intimacy (that need not be seen in any particular order).

Film Forum will hold marathon screenings of all three films during the run of Dreams.
