Tessa Thompson Brings Intensity to Classic Drama in ‘Hedda’ Trailer

Prime Video debuted the official trailer for Hedda, director Nia DaCosta’s bold reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s classic, starring Tessa Thompson, delivering a towering performance as the provocative, manipulative Hedda Gabler.

The ensemble includes Imogen Poots, Tom Bateman, Nicholas Pinnock, and Nina Hoss, whose characters spiral into turmoil over one night of desire, betrayal, and power.

Hedda will have its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), then opens in theaters starting October 22, 2025, before making a global streaming debut on Prime Video on October 29.

From writer/director Nia DaCosta comes a provocative, modern reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play. Hedda (Tessa Thompson) finds herself torn between the lingering ache of a past love and the quiet suffocation of her present life. Over the course of one charged night, long-repressed desires and hidden tensions erupt—pulling her and everyone around her into a spiral of manipulation, passion, and betrayal.

Nia DaCosta gives voice to Hedda’s complexity saying “Hedda is someone who wants people’s animals to come out. She just feels like everyone is cowardly, everyone’s lying. She has this deepening emptiness inside of her that makes her do things she doesn’t understand – and she is living in a world that she doesn’t get.”
