Apple debuted the trailer for The Lost Bus, the survival thriller film starring Matthew McConaughey, America Ferrera, Yul Vazquez, Spencer Watson and Ashlie Atkinson.
Matthew McConaughey stars as a bus driver carrying children and their teacher to safety through the 2018 Camp Fire, which became the deadliest fire in California history. The film is based on Lizzie Johnson’s book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire chronicling the true story of bus driver Kevin McKay and school teacher Mary Ludwig, who helped navigate a bus full of children through the deadly fire.
Directed by Paul Greengrass, the film will World Premiere as a Special Presentation at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, then opens in select theaters on September 19, 2025, before premiering globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, October 3, 2025.
Inspired by real events, The Lost Bus is a white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires, as a wayward school bus driver (Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey) and a dedicated school teacher (Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe Award-winner America Ferrera) battle to save 22 children from the terrifying inferno.
Written by Greengrass and Brad Inglesby, who also serve as producers, The Lost Bus is produced by Gregory Goodman, Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions, and Jamie Lee Curtis for Comet Pictures.
