Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Megalopolis) will honor director Werner Herzog with the “Laudatio” speech at the special ceremony where he will be awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during the Opening Ceremony of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival of La Biennale di Venezia.
The documentary Megadoc by Mike Figgis will be showcased at the festival as part of the Venice Classics – Documentaries About Cinema section. The film is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola’s latest feature film. Ford Coppola received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 1992 at the 49th Venice Film Festival.
Werner Herzog will present his new documentary Ghost Elephants in Out of Competition and hold a Masterclass on the same day. The documentary follows Dr. Steve Boyes and master trackers from Namibia, in search of a mysterious elusive herd of Ghost Elephants in the highlands of Angola, a wooded plateau — virtually uninhabited, but in size as large as England.
