73rd San Sebastián Festival Winners – Sundays Wins Golden Shell, The Voice of Hind Rajab and Little Amélie Nab Audience Awards

Sundays (Los domingos) directed by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa has won the Golden Shell at the 73rd San Sebastián Festival, along with the FIPRESCI Prize, Feroz Zinemaldia 2025 Award, SIGNIS Award and the Irizar Basque Film Award.

Sundays is a Spanish drama about Ainara, a 17-year-old idealistic student who surprises her family by expressing a desire to become a nun instead of going to college.

Joachim Lafosse won the Silver Shell for Best Director for Six Days in Spring (Six jours ce printemps-là), as well as the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay, the award he shares with Chloé Duponchelle and Paul Ismaël for Los Tigres. Lafosse previously won Best Director for The White Knights (Les chevaliers blancs) in 2015.

Six Days in Spring is a family drama about a single mother who, after her vacation plans fall apart, secretly takes her twin children to stay in her ex-in-laws’ villa on the French Riviera for six days.

The Silver Shell for Best Leading Performance was shared between Jose Ramon Soroiz, for his role in Maspalomas, and to Zhao Xiaohong, for role in Her Heart Beats in Its Cage (Jianyu laide mama). Camila Plaate won the Silver Shell for Best Supporting Performance for her role in Belén.

Weightless (Vaegtloes), the debut film from Emilie Thalund, won the Kutxabank-New Directors Award, and the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera Award went to The Ice Tower (La tour de glace), the latest film from Lucile Hadzihalilovicn.

The City of Donostia / San Sebastián Audience Award went to The Voice of Hind Rajab, while the the animated film Little Amélie or the Character of Rain (Amélie et la métaphysique des tubes) walked away with the Audience Award for Best European Film.
