Netflix debuted the full official trailer for Ballad of a Small Player starring Colin Farrell as Lord Doyle, a high-stakes gambler hiding out in Macau under a false name.
Surrounding him in the thriller are Fala Chen, Tilda Swinton, Deanie Ip, and Alex Jennings.
Ballad of a Small Player made its world premiere at the 52nd Telluride Film Festival. the film will open in select American theaters on October 15, 2025, before launching globally on Netflix on October 29, 2025.
Here is the official synopsis: Lord Doyle (Colin Farrell) is laying low in Macau – spending his days and nights on the casino floors, drinking heavily and gambling what little money he has left. Struggling to keep up with his fast-rising debts, he is offered a lifeline by the mysterious Dao Ming (Fala Chen), a casino employee with secrets of her own.
However, in hot pursuit is Cynthia Blithe (Tilda Swinton) – a private investigator ready to confront Doyle with what he is running from. As Doyle tries to climb to salvation, the confines of reality start to close in.
Ballad of a Small Player is directed by Edward Berger (All Quiet On The Western Front, Conclave).
Critical response to Ballad of a Small Player has been mixed with, The Film Stage calling it “a delicious, nasty exuberance,” and Geek Vibes Nation describing it as “the first major misfire for Edward Berger as he continues to push his way into the mainstream of film culture.”
