
Diane Ladd, actress and mother of actress Laura Dern, known for her Academy Award nominated performances in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Wild at Heart, and Rambling Rose, has died at the age of 89.
Born on November 29, 1935, in Laurel, Mississippi, Ladd rose from modest beginnings to become one of Hollywood’s most versatile character actors. She earned widespread acclaim for her role as Flo in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974), directed by Martin Scorsese. That performance brought her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
In the years that followed, Ladd delivered strong performances in such films as Chinatown (1974) and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989), the latter showcasing her comedic side. Her collaboration with her daughter, Laura Dern, in films like Wild at Heart (1990) and Rambling Rose (1991) earned her further Oscar nominations.
Ladd’s most recently released film credit was Gigi & Nate (2022).
Beyond her film work, Ladd explored television and theatre and received three Academy Award nominations alongside multiple Emmy and Golden Globe accolades.
