‘100 Nights of Hero’ Emboldens Queer Storytelling In Fantasy Adaptation Starring Charli XCX, Felicity Jones | Trailer

A new storytelling ambition aims to etch its mark in the annals of fantasy in 100 Nights of Hero directed by Julia Jackman, and starring Emma Corrin, Nicholas Galitzine, Maika Monroe, Amir El-Masry, Charli XCX, Richard E. Grant and Felicity Jones.

The film, adapting the graphic novel The One Hundred Nights of Hero by Isabel Greenberg, tells a tale of a bride named Cherry (Monroe) who yearns to bear the heir of her new husband Jerome (El-Masry), who is increasingly distant towards her. Jerome leaves to test her loyalty to him by inviting over Manfred (Galitzine), a clueless playboy who is given free reign to smother Cherry with romantic gestures, leaving the dedicated maid Hero (Corrin) to fend him off. A love triangle, interspersed with queer themes, dominates the plot of the movie, and highlights the importance of female independence.

“I think that’s what I hope—people will get transported,” says Jackman at an interview closing BFI London Film Festival. “Whether it’s for you or whether it’s not, I hope that it makes you think… “If I’ve got something to say, I’m going to talk to people about it. I’m going to listen to people when they tell me their stories…” It could inspire people to tell their own stories.”

Stefania Sarrubba from Soundsphere had this to say in her review of the film, “Inspired by the One Thousand and One Nights, 100 Nights of Hero harnesses the power of storytelling. Not just mightier than the sword, the pen allows someone to come into existence by presenting their narrative in their own voice. This is what Cherry and Hero do when they take ownership of their stories, morsels of the female experience that come together in a kaleidoscope of visual influences.”

100 Nights of Hero had its distribution rights bought by IFC in May of this year. It first premiered at Venice International Film Festival on September 6, and was a closing film for BFI London Film Festival on October 14th. Its theatrical run across America begins December 5th.
